Reference Materials

Reference materials for implementation of GEOTRACES activities are introduced below:

GEOTRACES Scientific Plan

Science Plan of GEOTRACES was discussed and approved by Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) of International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2005.

It is avaiable in PDF file: GEOTRACES Science Plan (1.9MB)

GEOTRACES Intercalibration Planning Document

GEOTRACES Intercalibration Planning Document has been developed by the Standards and Intercalibration Committee of GEOTRACES.

The document is available in PDF file: GEOTRACES Intercalibration Planning Document (134KB)

PLease see also the following procedures.

Sampling and Sample-handling Protocols for GEOTRACES Research Cruises

GEOTRACES sample acquisition, handling, and storage protocols has been publised by the GEOTRACES Standards and Intercalibration Committee as CookBook Ver 3.0. The CookBook Ver 3.0 is available in PDF file:

Sampling and Sample-handling Protocols for GEOTRACES Cruises (5.7MB)

Sections of aerosol and BioGEOTRACES are added in Ver 3.0, and it recomends to refer the GOSHIP manual on hydrographic reseach, JGOFS Report 19, the PICES Report 34, DOC/DON section, and the publication by Parsons et al. (1984):

Citation of the publication by Parsons et al. is:

Parsons, T.R., Y. Maita, and C.M. Lalli. 1984. A Manual of Chemical and Biological Methods for Seawater Analysis. Pergamon, Oxford, 173 pp.

The names of the GEOTRACES parameters for the Intermediate Data Product (IDP) were formalized by the GEOTRACES Parameter Definition Committee

A flow chart to guide cruise leaders who wish to develop a research programme to be designated as a GEOTRACES cruise or compliant data has been published.

The flow chart is available in PDF file:Guide to GEOTRACES Cruise Chief Scientists (644KB)

Outreach Materials

Software: Ocean Data View (ODV)

Ocean Data View (ODV) is one of powerful software packages for interactive exploration, analysis and visualization of oceanographic and other geo-referenced profile or sequence data developed by Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), Germany.

ODV is available from the ODV homepage: http://odv.awi.de/
