　In order to efficiently manage the marine organism data on the computer, it is necessary to encode the information about the wide variety of species. According to marine biologist guidance JODC published the first edition of the "JODC Marine Organism Code" on the basis of the system of taxonomic in 1988. However, since the changes, etc. of taxonomic system and rank are caused by the discoveries of new species and new findings after 1988, the full review of the code was performed and the "JODC Marine Organism Code (Plankton) 2001 Version" was published.
