In Tokyo, the voltage of electricity is 100v, and the frequency is 50Hz.
The currency in Japan is Japanese Yen (JPY). 4 kinds of notes (1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 JPY) and 6 kinds of coins (1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 JPY) are available. Basically, foreign currencies are not accepted in stores or restaurants. The exchange rate for the United States Dollars is about 75 JPY for 1 dollar as of Oct.2011. The rate is variable.
If participants would like to exchange the money for JPY, banks or exchange-shops are available in international airport or with the sign of "authorized money changer". It is recommended for participants to exchange the foreign currency for JPY at HANEDA or NARITA airport.
Generally, credit cards e.g. VISA, Master, Diners and American Express are available in shops or restaurants.
Akasaka, Minato-ku (Minato-city) in which the symposium will be held is located in the central area of Tokyo, and around the meeting building there are lots of office buildings are located. In the Minato-ku, the area specialized for commerce e.g. Aoyama or Akasaka, or the entertainment district e.g. Roppongi are famous.
Also in Minato-ku, the Tokyo-tower, the symbol of Tokyo, is located, and there also still remains some parks or Japanese traditional gardens e.g. Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Gardens, Shiba park.
In December, it is winter in Tokyo, the lowest temperature is around 7 degrees Celsius, and the highest is around 14 degrees Celsius. Though it rarely snows, it is recommended to bring your winter clothes.
