Prep-Meeting
A preparatory meeting towards the development of an Ocean Data and Information Network for the WESTPAC region (Prep-ODINWESTPAC) was held on 5-6 December 2006 as a symposium session in the 3rd International Workshop for GODAR-WESTPAC which was held in Tokyo, Japan.
This Prep-ODINWESTPAC was attended by participants from 12 countries which are Australia, China, Japan, Rep. of Korea, Malaysia, Russia Fed., Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Vietnam, including the representatives of IOC/WESTPAC, SEAFDEC and IOC/IODE as well as the 3rd international workshop for GODAR-WESTPAC.
In this meeting, the brief that was discussed by participants is as follows:

- To establish the pilot project of ODINWESTPAC for 2007-2008 as first
step, in order to establish the ODINWESTPAC.
- To establish the ODINWESTPAC as longer term by the result of the pilot
project.
- To establish the pilot project of ODINWESTPAC in IODE XIX, and to be
adopted the establlish of ODINWESTPAC in IOC/WESTPAC V.
- To establish the pilot project which has the capacity building of marine
data management and the function of RNODC-WESTPAC in the pilot project.
- To carry out the training course on member state with NOWPAP in 2007.
- To hold the conference of working group in the pilot project.
- To fulfilled the secretariat by IOC/WESTPAC office in the pilot project.
- The work plan (proposal) of pilot project was proposed by JODC, adopted
after the correct.
