2nd International Workshop for

GODAR-WESTPAC

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this workshop is to review the progress and activities of GODAR-WESTPAC and to discuss the promotion of the project and cooperation in the WESTPAC region in accordance with the IODE policy and the GODAR initiatives so as to contribute the oceanographic research activities through rescue of oceanographic data in danger of lost.

VENUE AND DATE:

The workshop will be held at the conference hall at 7th floor of Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department, Japan Coast Guard from November 10 to 12, 2004 with financially supported by Japan-UNESCO Funds-in-Trust for WESTPAC and Ship & Ocean Foundation, Japan. Ship & Ocean Foundation (SOF) was founded in 1975 under the patronage of the Nippon Foundation in order to support projects related to shipbuilding and the ocean.

(2)     History and Results of the IOC GODAR Project by Dr. Sydney Levitus, Director of WDC-A for Oceanography

(3)     Recent Topics and Data Needs on Physical Oceanography by Japanese Researcher

(4)     Recent Topics and Data Needs on Bio-chemical Oceanography by Japanese Researcher

(5)     Scientific Results Made Possible by the GODAR Project- Ocean Heat Content, Freshwater Content, and Steric Sea Level by Dr. Sydney Levitus

4. International Related Activities by International Project or Organization

5. National Reports by each country

6. Related Activities by Japanese organizations

7. Discussion on the progress and future plan for the project

8. Other business

9. Close

 

 

EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS:

The workshop will expect a participation of

(1) representative from Data Centers or Designate National Agencies (DNAs) of IODE in the WESTPAC region,

(2) competent organizations which will be expected a contribution to GODAR-WESTPAC from each country in the region, and

(3) representative from the International Projects or Organizations who will be able to cooperate with GODAR-WESTPAC

 

The workshop will be opened for the people who are interested in GODAR-WESTPAC.

 

 

LANGUAGE:

The workshop will be conducted in English

 

 

REGISTRATION FEE:

The registration and participation of this workshop will be not charged.  But all participants should be requested to register at JODC by the following deadline.

All representatives from data centers/DNAs and competent organization of each county will be requested to report on their activities related to GODAR-WESTPAC.

The presentation by the representative of International Projects or Organizations will be welcomed, and also they will be requested to make a consultation with JODC for arrangement of the workshop program.
