| Current-meter data in the Northwest
Pacific Ocean (1978–1985) The table below lists 50 current-meter records provided by Drs. Shiro Imawaki and Kenzo Takano in 2018. A pdf file in the rightmost column shows time series of current-meter data; the abscissa is the serial day from 1 January 1979 (Japan Standard Time). In each pdf file, the first set of five panels is for raw data and the next set is for their low-pass-filtered data. The raw data were lost, except those panels, because binary data written with variable length on magnetic tapes became unreadable as the era of magnetic tapes had passed. The low-pass-filtered data, however, survive and are public at “Mooring Observation Data” at “Observation Data” section of J-DOSS. Statistics of velocity-fluctuations filtered out by that filter (high-frequency velocity-fluctuations including tides and inertial oscillations) are shown in the table. Symbol U* (V*) denotes the mean square of the high-frequency zonal (meridional) velocity-fluctuations and K* denotes the kinetic energy per unit mass of the high-frequency fluctuations [= (U*+V*)/2]. The table is written in the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and World Geodetic System (WGS), following the open data policy of J-DOSS, by converting Japan Standard Time and Tokyo datum (Japan Geodetic System) in the provided data.
