Objectives |
The main purpose of the cruise is "General studies on the distribution of trace elements and biogeography in the south Pacific (GEOTRACES and DOBIS)", which is subdivided into the following eleven themes: 1. Distribution and spatio-temporal variation of chemical tracers observed using CTD-hydrocasts and large-volume water sampling. 2. Studies on biogeochemical cycles using water samples by CTD-hydrocasts and large-volume water sampling. 3. Paleoceanographic studies using piston core and mutiple core samples 4. Ecological and phylogenetic studies on microbiological communities using water samples by CTD-hydrocasts. 5. Studies on the occurrence and primary production of phytoplankton communities using water samples by CTD-hydrocasts. 6. Classification and ecological studies on zooplankton and micronekton using plankton net samples. 7. Biodiversity and ecology of benthic organisms surveyed using beam-trawl samples. 8. Studies on migration ecology and biodiversity of leptocephali using plankton net samples. 9. Spatio-temporal variation of aerosol material collected by air samplers. 10. Geochemical cycles associated with hydrothermal activity along the Antarctic ridge using CTD-hydrocasts. 11. Deployment of ARGO floats. |
