Non-Digital Data (Microfilm)

Last update : August 5, 2013

Non-digital data mentioned here is a microfilm that contains statistical analyses based on the marine data that JODC holds, smooth sheets, and withdrawn charts.

Temperature, Salinity, Oxygen

  1. Statistic Table of Temperature
This product is a summary of statistical analyses (by month in 1 degree) of temperature data from serial station data, CTD/STD, bathythermograph data files. The outputs are recorded in 1250 microfiches. The tabular presentation lists month, number of data, depth, average value, maximum value, minimum value and standard deviation. The data used are for 1931 to 1986.

  2. Statistic Table of Serial Station Data (Temperature, Salinity, Oxygen)
This product is a vertical array summary of temperature, salinity or oxygen versus depth. The summary was made by month for 1 degree square and 30 minutes square in the northwestern Pacific. It is available in microfiches. The data used are for 1907 to 1971. The tabular presentation is the same as that of above, "Statistic Table of Temperature".

Statistic Table of Ocean Current

This product is a summary of statistical analyses of surface current (GEK) data. The summary was made by season and all period for 30 minutes square and 15 minutes square in the Japan adjacent seas. It is available in 178 microfiches. The data used are for 1953 to 1980. For selected areas and time periods the total number of observation, average current direction and speed, maximum current, standard deviation, stability are presented.

Marine Surface Meteorological Data

This product is a summary of marine surface meteorological data. The summary was made by month for 30 degree square in the Japan adjacent seas. It is available in 1202 microfiches. The data used are for 1963 to 1980. The summary include a statistical distribution of wind, swell, cloud, etc by classes, and maximum value, minimum value and average.

Tide

  1. Tidal Observation Recording Forms
Tidal observation recording forms which were observed at 28 stations by Japan Coast Guard for 1943 to 1987 are available in microfilms (213 volumes).

  2. Tidal Observation Manuscript Forms (Monthly Tables)
Tidal observation manuscript forms (monthly tables) which were collected at 28 stations operated by Japan Coast Guard for up to 1990 and 84 station in the East Asia by the then Imperial Navy for up to 1940 are available in 519 microfiches.

Bathymetry and Marine Geophysics

  1. Smooth Sheets
This is an original sheet for compiling nautical charts and bathymetric charts. 11,358 smooth sheets for 75 years from 1917 to 1991 have been microfiched.

  2. Seismic Profile Records
The seismic profile records resulted by the survey for Basic Maps of Sea from 1967 to 1986 were microfilmed in 211 volumes.

  3. Aged Charts
The aged charts are nautical charts which were replaced with new versions. 3093 aged charts published by Japan Coast Guard from 1871 to 1981 were microfiched.

  4. First Map in Japan by Tadataka Ino
This is the first national map produced by Tadataka Ino based on the survey from 1800 to 1809, which is microfiched in 226 sheets.
