The Marine Information Service Office has been established in JODC to assist users in providing marine information and data archived such as water, temperature, salinity, ocean current, tidal current, tide and bathymetry, as well as in replying to questions related to oceans and seas. The references, nautical charts, hydrographic bulletin, other publications provided by the domestic and international agencies are also available.
Besides the services, inquiries on information for marine leisure made by telephone calls or letters are also acceptable.
The service is free of charge but request from non mutual data exchange or commercial users will be charged by Japan Hydrographic Association under the cost recovery basis, this is an actual cost related to the labour and materials, but there is no charge for the actual data.
Bibliographies and charts are displayed and stored on the table or in the book stand so that anyone is able to refer to them in the office, but not able to lend. The reference is classified into the following 3 categories:
Reference services are available free, after users visit at the office and fill up a register form.
JODC data and information products and services are available upon request to all users on magnetic tapes, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, microfiches, or copies of original sheets. Requests may be submitted by letter, telephone or visit to the Marine Information Service Office.
Users may directly inquire any of the following offices by letter, telephone or visit. All the personnel are experienced in providing consultation to users and are accustomed to working together to fulfill users' requests.
